HOW LONG SHOULD I HOLD MY DISHPOD UNDER THE TAP?
We recommend holding the Dishpod under warm (preferably hot) water between 7-10 seconds. The warmer the water, the sudsier your sink. This amount of time will vary depending on your water pressure, the size of your sink, just how dirty those dishes are, and how much you enjoy suds!
WHAT DO I DO WITH THE LIQUID IN THE DRIPTRAY?
The liquid in the Driptray is a detergent super concentrate and, as a result, is a super cleaner! The possibilities are endless - tip the contents into the sink to top off your dish water or onto the bench top for a good wipe-down after the dishes are done.
DOES THE DISHPOD WORK WITH COLD WATER?
The Dishpod Refill Bar is formulated to work with warm water. Warm water means the optimal activation of detergent, more bubbles, and a much better clean. So if you're concerned that your pod isn't working the way you think it should, try turning up the heat!
THERE AREN’T AS MANY BUBBLES AS MY LIQUID DISHWASH - WHAT GIVES?
Let’s talk about the Bubble Myth! This is the common misconception - brought to you by Big Detergent - that more bubbles mean better cleaning. Most mainstream detergents even have a chemical additive that serves no other purpose than to create bubbles. That chemical nasty not only doesn’t have any cleaning properties, but also makes it harder to rinse residue from your dishes, contributing to that yucky chemical smell and taste.
The truth is that excessive bubbles, and certainly those from chemical additives, can actually impede the cleaning process by trapping dirt and preventing water and detergent from reaching those greasy spots. Our Refill Bar has no unnecessary additives, so the bubbles you see are doing the heavy lifting! And even once they’ve faded, the surfactant filled water still works like magic to cut dirt and grease.
IS THE DISHPOD SAFE FOR MY SEPTIC TANK?
Absolutely! The surfactants in the Refill Bar are the gentlest and safest available and are, of course, palm oil free. Carly and Regan have been using the Dishpod for years with their natural septic system, and the worms are plentiful and happy!
CAN I TAKE THE DISHPOD CAMPING?
Yes! The ingredients are safe for you and for our environment, and the Dishpod is lightweight and easy to take on any adventure. Not to mention no unwanted spills in your pack!
WHY DOES MY DISHPOD HAVE BLACK FLECKS IN THE PLASTIC?
The Dishpod is made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic. This means that every pod will be a bit different and some will have freckles, just like us! Those little specks are often remnants of whatever was sitting in the plastic before it was recycled and are a lovely reminder that your Dishpod is living its second life. Good on you for buying recycled products!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS IN THE REFILL BAR?
While our exact formulation is super top secret and contained in a wormorator vault deep in the Northland bush, we can tell you all of our gentle and water-friendly ingredients on our Ingredients Page.
HOW LONG DOES A REFILL BAR LAST?
One Refill Bar is just about equal to three 500ml bottles of liquid dishwash. How long it lasts depends on how long you hold the Dishpod under the tap and how often you do dishes. It’s really up to you!
IS THE DISHPOD THE SAME AS A SOAP SHAKER?
Well you’ve dropped right into our founding story! Carly made the first detergent bar in her shed in a pursuit to improve upon the dishwashing soap bar she was already selling through her soap business. Not planning to start a whole new venture, Carly popped that bar into her old school soap shaker. She immediately found that the detergent was a far more effective cleaner than the soap. Regan though, a builder and designer by trade, saw right away that the soap shaker wasn’t the right tool for the job. The soap shaker pulled way too much detergent into the water, and the bar quickly turned to mush.
Carly and Regan teamed up with Amber and Eugene to develop a system to maximise the bar’s performance by creating a dispenser where water could flow over the bar at a controlled rate. And so the Dishpod, which is designed to hold steady under the tap, was born, ringing in a new and improved generation of sustainable dishwashing.
CAN I PUT MY REFILL BAR INTO A SOAP SHAKER?
You sound resourceful! Yes, you can, but not for optimal performance, and you might make quite a mess on the bench top. If you already have a soap shaker and want to use it instead of buying a new product, we can work with that. If you’re using the Refill Bar in a soap shaker, no need to shake or submerge. Simply hold the soap shaker under the running water, as you would the Dishpod, to fill the sink with suds. The Refill Bar will use up faster in a soap shaker because of the exposed surface area, and you may end up with more detergent in your sink than needed. So be gentle, and those surfactants will still work their magic on your dishes.
CAN I PUT A SOAP BAR INTO MY DISHPOD?
This is a no. Carly makes soap, and she’ll tell you that a soap bar just won’t work in the Dishpod. Soap and detergent have different chemical compositions and different means of activation. That’s why soap shakers have plenty of exposed surface area and facilitate a good underwater shake. The Refill Bar works great in your Dishpod because it’s activated by a steady flow of water and nothing else. Superhero that soap is, it just can’t cut it in the Dishpod.
CAN I RECYCLE MY DISHPOD?
We hope that your Dishpod lasts forever and ever and follows you should you ever shift houses. But to satisfy your curiosity, the answer is yes! The Dishpod is a Number 5 plastic and is accepted as recyclable in most roadside bins.
